Kochi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) today announced the Nilambur bypoll on June 19 along with byelections in five assembly constituencies of Gujarat, Punjab and West Bengal on Sunday.
Resignation of P V Anvar, LDF backed Independent candidate in 2025 January following differences with the Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan of CPM.
Anvar had won in the 2021 assembly elections.
Later, Anvar joined Trinamool Congress.
The UDF is expected to announce its candidate soon.
Bypolls will also be held in Visavadar, Kadi (Gujarat), Ludhiana West (Punjab), and Kaliganj (West Bengal) constituencies.
Last date for submitting nominations is June 2 while scrutiny of nominations will be held on June 3. Last date to withdraw nomination is June 5.
Counting of votes will be held on June 23.
