Kochi: Congress’ protest against rocketing oil prices boomeranged on them as police registered non-bailable cases against many leaders for engaging in the alleged violence during the road roko organized by the party at Vyttila on Monday.
Maradu Police’s FIR has named former Mayor Tony Chammany and other six leaders for attacking actor Joju George’s car and damaging it. They also allegedly abused him. Based on Joju’s complaint Maradu police registered cases against the leaders.
Congress leaders parked vehicles on the Vytilla – Edappally road blocking vehicles for a long time on Monday morning. The protest was against the hike in oil prices. The actor, who got stuck for more than an hour in the traffic snarl due to the road blockade, lost his cool and went towards the leaders and got engaged in a verbal duel.
Congress workers had also filed complaints against the actor with Maradu police. A decision on which will be taken tomorrow, police officials in Kochi said.
