Ola e-scooter sets record sales in two days

Kochi: Electric two wheeler maker Ola electric claimed that it sold scooters for over Rs 1,100 crore in just two days.

The sale of different variants of Ola electric was unprecedented in the automotive industry and e-commerce history of the  country,  tweeted Bhavesh Aggarwal, co-chairman and group chief executive officer, Ola, media  reports said. 

EV makers sold 121,170 units across all categories between January and July against 119,647 EVs sold in the whole of last calendar year, media reports quoting data from the government’s Vahan platform.

Ola Electric introduced its variants S1 and S1 Pro – starting from Rs 99,999. This does not include incentives, registration fee, and insurance premium. 

Uttar Pradesh topped with 17 percent share in overall sales in July. Karnataka 15 per cent, Tamil Nadu 12 per cent and Maharashtra 10 per cent.

Thursday was the second and final day for the purchase of the Ola S1 and S1 Pro.

The company had sold scooters worth over Rs 600 crore in just 24 hours.

The purchase window is now closed while  the reservations are open.

The purchase window will open on November 1, 2021, coinciding with Diwali.

Ola Electric deferred e-scooter sales due to a website snag last week. It reopened the sale of Ola S1 and S1 Pro on Wednesday. The vehicles are being sold exclusively on the Ola app digitally.

The booking opened on July 15 for the vehicle which are being made in Tamil Nadu in the 500 acre Futurefactory. The plant, made in a nature friendly manner, can produce ten million vehicles per year. There are ten production lines in the factory having the support of 3000 robots to ensure absolute precision.

Ola claims to have optimised technological parameters like speed, boot space among others. 

Ola, which has already created brand equity through its cab service, is aiming to achieve full capacity of 10 million vehicles per annum next year.

The uncertainty in fuel price has encouraged other two wheeler makers to make hay.

Hero motors, which has been there in the field for over a decade, has smartly managed the show by offering different variants at affordable price range below Rs 70,000. More major players are expected to take a plunge realising the huge potential in the sector.

It had announced the launch of the electric scooters on August 15 and they went on sale on September 15. It clocked a sale if rs 600 crore on first 24 hours.
