Saji quits for attacking Constitution

Kochi: Controversial CPM leader Saji Cherian today resigned but did not tender an apology for criticising country’s constitution.
Saji said that the decision to quit was his independent decision and the matter was conveyed to Chief Minister.
Addressing a press conference after tendering his resignatio, he criticised the media for misinterpreting his speech when he attacked the Constitution.
He said he had handed over his resignation to the Chief Minister who is reported to have taken legal advice from Advocate General.
Saji said that he was in the public life for over four decades. He said he started working for the party when he was in class eight.
He said he had high regards for the constitution.
Saji said he was strongly hurt after his one hour long speech was misinterpreted.
Saji said he had high regards for the system of the country.
Interestingly, the same Saji had refused to quit today afternoon while coming out of the party state secretariat’s available meeting at Thiruvanathapuram.
It is learnt that CPM central leadership had taken strong stand seeking his expulsion.

Saji’s issue has added to the woes of the ruling CPM-led LDF government which is facing a number of controversies including the gold smuggling charges against Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
