U-17 women’s World Cup in jeopardy

Kochi: Football lovers in the country are dejected as the country may not be able to host the Under 17 women’s World football cup from October 11 due to world body FIFA’s riders on AIFF.

The FIFA suspended all programmes of the FIFA due to the influence of a third party in the administration of All India Football Federation (AIFF), media reports said.

India is banned from playing international football events until the AIFF administration is back on track.

The suspension is likely to be lifted only after the AIFF administration regains full control of its daily activities, the reports said.

The problem started due to its previous chief Praful Patel hanging on to the post even after the expiry of his tenure.

The FIFA had sent notice to AIFF on August 5 after the Supreme Court directed AIFF to hold elections.

The Committee of Administration which is running it had suggested the dates of election on August 28.

The poll process began on August 13.
The tournament was scheduled to be held from October 11 to 30 as it could not conduct the event in 2020 due to Covid 19 restrictions.
India hosted it in 2017.
