Kochi: Russian President Vladimir Putin said the Taliban regime in Afghanistan was combating terrorist organisations and had curbed opium production, India Today reported.
Justifying Moscow’s decision to recognise the Taliban regime in Kabul, Putin asserted that the Taliban was acting against terrorism which dismissed Pakistan’s narrative that the Taliban was fuelling terrorism in Pakistan.
Speaking exclusively to India Today, Putin said,…for decades this country has been embroiled in a civil war…But the Taliban clearly controls the situation in Afghanistan and this is evident…
Putin’s remarks come at a time when Russia has deepened ties with the Taliban, hosting delegations in Moscow. Notably, Russia became the first country to recognise Afghanistan’s Taliban government.
