Possible rail mishap averted

Kochi: A possible rail mishap was averted when a track failure was detected between Ernakulam North and Tripunithura on Thursday, railway sources said.

The train, which was running about three hours late, was delayed for more than one hour between Ernakulam Town and Ernakulam C cabin.

The train was finally cleared at about 5.35 pm.There was a track failure detected near Ernakulam C cabin due to which the train was detained. It was done to help the railways carry out repair works, railway sources told
the newsskerala.com.

There was a contradiction in the statement of railways sources as one official said the delay was due to ‘track failure’ while the other said it was due to maintenance work.

The train which was scheduled to arrive at Ernakulam North at 1 pm, reached at about 4 pm. As soon as it left Ernakulam town, it was detained before the Ernakulam West cabin.
Sabarimala pilgrims from different parts of the southern states were put to great torture due to this.

A passenger traveling in the train from Secunderabad lamented that there were hell of problems since the train started from the station of origin. The train was detained for long time at different places, he said.
He said there were many female students traveling in the train which would reach at odd hours due to the delay, he said.

Large number of Sabarimala pilgrims were put to great difficulty.
