Kochi: CPM’s central leadership is unhappy over the party ignoring K K Shailaja for health portfolio in the second Pinarayi government. The in the discussions held in the recently concluded Central Committee meeting the central leadership wondered why Kerala leadership did not consider her outstanding performance as the health minister in the previous government. Leaders from some other states raised the issue.
The Kerala leadership countered by citing the cases of former finance and PWD ministers who were denied tickets in assembly election. Coming to the aid of the Kerala unit, CPM General Secretary Sitaram Yechury said that the decisions were taken by the Kerala unit on the basis of the policy followed by the state party. Former ministers and senior leaders who had exhausted their quota were not considered to contest the polls. The assembly results proved that the people had acknowledged the party’s decisions in this regard, he said.
The people were happy with the governance of the previous government. He expressed concern over the left not getting even one seat in assembly election in West Bengal which had happened for the first time since 1946.
However, the people have voted against the BJP and Hindutva in WB, Yechuri said. He said that the BJP has been the main rival of the CPM since long. He said the party would carry out introspection to make corrections in the party in Bengal. The party would march ahead after carrying out such mistakes. Yechury said that he would attend the state committee meeting of the party in Kerala on August 12 and 13.
He said there was no untouchability against anyone on the issue of national alliance against the BJP.
