Kochi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday
flayed suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma for making controversial statements against the minority community.
The court made the observation while considering Nupur Sharma’s plea seeking transfer of FIRs filed against her across the country to Delhi.
The court held her responsible for creating disturbance across the country through her remarks made during a TV Channel debate while discussing the Gyanvapi Mosque case which is in the consideration of the court.
The court also said that it was her remarks that led to the murder of a tailor in Udaipur.
Becoming a spokesman is not a license to utter anything, the court said.
The Apex Court directed her to withdraw her statement and tender an apology to the nation.
When her counsel told the Supreme Court that Nupur Sharma had already withdrawn her remarks and tendered an apology, the court said it was not satisfied with it and that she should have apologised through TV channels.
The court said she had made considerable delay in withdrawing her statement and tendering an apology.
The court directed her to approach the High Court following which she withdrew her petition from the Apex Court.
