Several flights were cancelled, while airports were issued an advisory to deal with possible disruptions.
Northern India is likely to be affected by plumes from Hayli Gubbi volcano that erupted on Sunday for the first time in nearly 12,000 years.
The plumes can reach parts of Rajasthan and Haryana, and are likely to move towards Delhi, according to a weather forecast.
It is likely to hit the air quality in Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh. As the plumes are several thousand feet high in the atmosphere the
chances of any ash fall is low.
Akasa Air, IndiGo and KLM are among the airlines that cancelled.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has cautioned airlines to avoid ash-affected areas, adjust flight planning, routing, and fuel considerations based on the latest advisories.
Airlines have also been asked to immediately report any suspected ash encounter, including engine performance anomalies or cabin smoke or odour.
The volcano is located about nine miles southeast of the active Erta Ale volcano.
