Murmu is NDA presidential nominee

 Kochi: The BJP-led NDA has resolved to field 
Draupadi Murmu, 64, as its nominee for the post of country’s President.
A former Governor of Jharkhand, Murmu,  a tribal leader from Odisha, will fight against former Union Minister Yashwant Sinha, who is the opposition candidate.
The country has not seen a tribal woman to
becoming the President. The elections will be held on July 18. Counting will be held on July 21. The new President will take oath on July 25.
Final decision on selecting the presidential candidate from 20 probables was taken at the BJP parliamentary board meeting held today evening.
Murmu began her political career as a councillor and was twice elected to the Odisha assembly. She was also a minister in Odisha.
The President is elected by the electoral college comprising elected members of both houses of Parliament and legislative assemblies of all states.
