Kochi: Jaish-e-Mohammad chief Maulana Masood Azhar’s close aide, Maulana Raheem Ullah Tariq, was shot dead by unidentified attackers in Pakistan, media reports said. Tariq was killed while he was on his way to attend a religious gathering near Karachi on Sunday, the reports said. Tariq, known to be a close aide of Masood Azhar, was shot multiple times from close range by assailants killing him on the spot, the reports said.
Tariq was on his way to address a gathering against India and Kashmir, the reports said. Unidentified men had gunned down Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Akram Ghazi and Khwaja Shahid a few days back. Ghazi was one of the top recruiters for Lashkar between 2018-2020 and was responsible for radicalising terrorists in Kashmir Valley, the reports said. Shahid was one of the masterminds of the 2018 Sunjuwan terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir. Police in Pakistan are probing into the role of local terrorists and infighting among JeM cadres, the reports said.
Riyaz Ahmed of LeT, who was handling Lashkar’s operations and recruitment in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) was killed in Rawalakot, PoK in September. Khalistan Commando Force chief Paramjit Singh Panjwar was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in May near his residence in Lahore.
LeT operatives Maulana Ziaur Rehman was shot dead near Karachi, and Mufti Qaiser Farooq, in Gulshan-i-Umar seminary a few weeks back. JeM terrorist Shahid Latif, the chief handler of the fidayeen squad that attacked the Pathankot airbase in 2016, was gunned down by unidentified assailants in a mosque in Sialkot, Pakistan in October, the reports said.
