Kochi: With IB officials’ parents detained the rape accused IB official Sukant Suresh going innuendo after the alleged suicide of a fellow IB officer, Suresh’s parents have been taken into custody, media reports said.
They were detained as police exhausted all attempts to trace Sukant. The police seized computer hard disks and bank passbooks. Police carried out the raid after breaking open his house which was locked.
The female officer was found dead on March 24 on a railway track. She was posted at Thiruvananthapuram airport. According to the victim’s family, the female official’s strained relationship with Sukant led to suicide.
Sukant and his family went into hiding after the officer’s death, and Sukant’s phone was switched off. A lookout notice waa issued against him, following which Sukant filed an anticipatory bail plea in the High Court.
Police also revealed that Sukant had forged documents to prove that he was married to the woman, in order to get her to undergo an abortion.
Fake invitation letters and documents were found in the officer’s bag. The abortion reportedly took place at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram in July.
After the abortion, Sukant backed out of the relationship. Just days before her death, Sukant had sent a message to the woman’s mother stating that he was no longer willing to marry her. Police believe the emotional distress caused by this led the woman to take her own life.
