Kochi: Suhas Shetty, 30, who was accused in a murder case in Surathkal in 2022, was hacked to death in Bajpe in Mangaluru on Thursday night, media reports said.
Suhas, a Bajrang Dal activist, was the main accused in the murder of Mohammed Fazil, 23, in Surathakal on July 28,2022. Fazil was murdered two days after the killing of BJP worker Praveen Nettaru.
Suhas was travelling in a vehicle along with his friends at about 8.30 p.m. when their vehicle was waylaid by about six assailants who came in a car and a pickup vehicle.
They attacked Shetty with sharp weapons inflicting grievous injuries. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but could not be saved.
Police teams have been formed to apprehend the accused.
Ex MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, and others visited the mortuary of the hospital, where the Shetty’s body was kept.
Accused in many cases
Suhas was an accused in a total of five criminal cases, including two murder cases, in Mangaluru City and Dakshina Kannada district police limits. He was convicted in one case and acquitted in two others.
