Kochi: The police in Pathanamthitta have registered a case against former minister K T Jaleel for making controversial statements on Kashmir.
The case was registered under different acts on the basis of the direction given by the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court, Tiruvalla, after an RSS leader Arun Mohan moved against the former minister accusing him of making observations against the interests of the country.
Arun sought to impose 153 B of IPC, and Imputations, Assertions Prejudicial to national-integration and Insults to National Honour Act, 1971 (2) on him.
The petitioner had first approached the police seeking to book Jaleel, but the police refused to entertain the complaint.
Jaeel had made the controversial remarks in his Facebook post after he made a visit to Jammu and Kashmir a few days back.
Following widespread criticisms against him, Jaleel published another post saying that his remarks were misunderstood. As things became more controversial, Jaleel withdrew his post from the public domain.
Jaleel, an independent MLA supported by the ruling Left front, was a minister in the previous Left government. He is already facing many charges including violation of protocol for illegally communicating with UAE Consul General.
He was also accused of encouraging the UAE ruler to ban Kerala based Newspaper in UAE for writing an article about the problems faced by Indians in UAE affected by Covid 19 infection during the height of the pandemic.
