Kochi: The dowry death accused Dr Ruwais’ father has gone underground in connection with the suicide of his son’s fiance Dr Shahna the other day near Thiruvananthapuram, media reports said.
His house at Karunagappally was found locked when police went searching for him.
Dr Shahna’s mother alleged that Dr Ruwais’ father was also involved in demanding dowry. Ruwais was arrested the other day.
The two families had exchanged visits and were in talks about fixing the marriage date when suddenly Dr Ruwais walked out of it.
Dr Shahna had sent WhatsApp messages to Dr Ruwais saying that she was going to end her life as he had called off the marriage. Instead of taking steps to bring her around, he blocked her number.
Dr Shahna was found unconscious in her flat after taking anesthetic drugs. The police are planning to book more relatives of Dr Ruwais in the case.
Dr Shahna was a postgraduate student of surgery while Dr Ruwais was doing his Orthopaedics.
The IMA has revoked Dr Ruwais primary membership for abetment to suicide.
Meanwhile, there are reports of Shahna’s relatives planning to lodge seeking action against police who allegedly tried to protect Ruwais by hiding the WhatsApp messages of Shahna.
