Court cancels bail of accused in Madhu case

Kochi: A court in Palakkad today cancelled the bail of 12 accused facing charges in the murder of a tribal Madhu in Attapadi in Palakkad in 2018 for violating bail conditions.

The prosecution argued that the accused had influenced the witnesses violating the Kerala High Court’s bail conditions due to which some of the witnesses had turned hostile.

The SC/ST Special Court in Mannarkkad accepted the prosecution’s arguments and issued a warrant to nine of the 12 accused who did not appear before the court today.

There are 16 accused in the case relating to the lynching of Madhu for stealing rice from a grocery shop on February 22, 2018.

A Special Investigation Team submitted a charge sheet in May. There was considerable delay in the beginning of trial in the case as Madhu’s relatives and friends alleged that the involvement of a few CPM leaders and IUML leader was the reason for it.
