Kochi: In a major decision, the High Court of Kerala has directed a probe into Kerala Culture Minister Saji Cherian’s alleged remarks against the constitution in 2022 at Mallappally in Pathanamthitta, media reports said.
Quashing a Magistrate court’s order giving a clean chit to Cherian, the High Court directed the state government to conduct the probe expeditiously.
The High Court took note of the lower court order winding up the case even without waiting for the forensic examination of the visuals. The version of journalists present at the CPM party meeting at Mallappally were not taken.
The lower court’s verdict was challenged by a lawyer Baiju Noel seeking further probe into the case.
Cherian, who quit following the controversy, was later reinstated into the State Cabinet.
