Kochi: Kerala High Court has directed 27 lawyers to render free services to the public in association with Kottayam District Legal Authority for contempt of a lawyer court, media reports said.
A division bench of the High Court had made its ruling on the incident of the lawyers abusing a female judge of the Kottayam Chief Judicial Magistrate’s (CJM) court on November 23, 2023.
The High Court had initiated action against the lawyers for abusing and raising slogans against the Chief Judicial Magistrate inside and outside of the courtroom.
The judgment was based on the reports filed by the CJM and the Kottayam District and Sessions Judge in connection with the incident.
The lawyers had protested against the judge for booking a lawyer for allegedly furnishing a fake tax receipt for obtaining bail for his client in a case, the reports said.
