Kochi: The 73-year-old Charles has been formally proclaimed as king of the United Kingdom. He acceded to the throne after the death of his mother Queen Elizabeth II.He becomes the head of the state of not only the UK, but also 14 other commonwealth countries including Australia, Canada and New Zealand.
He was proclaimed King on Saturday at St James Palace in London before the ceremonial body Accession Council.
Charles III, Charles Philip Arthur George Windsor, is the Eldest son of Elizabeth II. He is the 13th head of the state since the formation of the political union of England and Scotland in 1707 and the 42 king of England since William the Conqueror became king in 1606. Prince WIlliam and Harry are his sons born through Lady Diana whom he married in 1981 divorced in 1996 and married Camila Parker Bowles in 2005.
Charles is the oldest person ever to assume the throne. After obtaining bachelor of arts from University of Cambridge, he served in the Royal Air Force and Royal Navy. He is an environmentalist and promoter of organic farming and encourages initiatives to prevent climate change.
