Health alert in Kerala

Kochi: A health alert has been sounded in Kerala after two suspected Nipah deaths were reported in Kozhikode in the state.
The relatives who came into contact with the deceased have been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), media reports said.
A high-level meeting was convened by the health minister to review the situation in the district.
In 2018, the first-ever Nipah virus outbreak in south India was reported from Kozhikode and Malappuram districts.
Kozhikode also witnessed another outbreak in 2021, the reports said.

Nipah virus is transmitted via animals to humans. It can also be transmitted via contaminated food or directly between people. The virus is fatal for humans and animals.
