Kochi: The CBI has said that the 1994 ISRO espionage case was a conspiracy hatched by certain officials, media reports said.
The agency said this in the chargesheet filed before Chief Judicial Magistrate, Thiruvananthapuram. The chargesheet pertained to the case related to the alleged framing of space scientist Nambi Narayanan in the case.
The CBI found abuse of law/authority right from the beginning like the illegal detention of
Mariyam Rasheeda of Maldeep.False interrogation reports were used to arrest victims. Former police commissioner Siby Mathews, forner DGP R B Sreekumar, and other cops K K Joshua, and P S Jayaprakash conspired to create fictitious documents to carry out the illegal arrests, torture among others.
CBI said Vijayan outraged the modesty of Maldivian Mariyam Rasheeda. The charge sheet recommends action against S Vijayan, Siby Mathews, K K Joshua, R B Sreekumar and P S Jayaprakash.
Media was misused to create a false narrative to implicate Mariyam Rasheeda and ISRO scientists.
A false case was registered under the Foreigner’s Act just to take her into custody by not returning her passport/travel documents.  The CBI accused S Vijayan of playing a very active role in implicating the victims. The victims were physically and mentally tortured to extract, the chargesheet noted.
