LokAyukta rejects plea against its verdict

Kochi: The LokAyukta today rejected a review petition challenging its verdict to transfer the Chief Minister Disaster Relief Fund (CMDRF) to a full bench.
The division bench said the petitioner R S Sasikumar had no evidence to back his allegations.
The three member full bench will now consider the alleged CMDRF misuse case against the Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his cabinet colleagues on June 5.
As the matter lay before the LokAyukta for one year, the petitioner moved the Kerala High Court seeking its intervention. Following this the LokAyukta took up the case last week and referred it to a full bench on technical grounds.
Activist Sasikumar had filed the case in 2018
alleging that the money from CMDRF was given to ineligible beneficiaries.
The government gave a sum of Rs 25 lakh to the kin of late NCP leader Uzhavoor Vijayan, Rs 20 lakh to the family of a cop who died while accompanying former CPM state secretary late Kodiyeri Balakrishnan and Rs 8.5 lakh to the family of former MLA K K Ramachandran Nair.
The plea was filed before the ombudsman in September, 2018, and the hearing ended on March 18, 2022.
The Left government had scripted a bill diluting the powers of the LokAyukta which is pending clearance by the Governor.
