Students move out of war hit city

Kochi: After waiting for many days, 694 Indian students were evacuated from war hit eastern region of Sumy to central city of Poltava
350 km east of Ukrainian capital Kyiv
today.

They were being shifted in buses through the safe corridor agreed to by Russia and Ukraine.

They were struggling without water, food and were fighting extreme cold conditions.

Though Ukraine had rejected the suggestion of creating the corridor yesterday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s discussion with the heads of Russia and Ukraine helped to solve the issue.

The frustrated students had decided to move to Poltava on their own, but were warned against taking the step by the Indian government.

Today nine persons were killed in Ukraine in a Russian attack.

Majority of the students are from Kerala.
India has evacuated 17,100 people from Ukraine since the outbreak of the war.
