Kochi: Lok Sabha poll results have triggered political churning not only in the LDF but also in the CPM not even spared the Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan for staging a poor show in the Lok Sabha polls, media reports said.
The Ezhava community, forming the backbone of the communist movement since the formation of the first communist government in 1956, has moved away in a big way due to Pinarayis’ ‘misdemeanors’, the party state secretariat meeting in Thiruvananthapuram, the reports said.
Various CPI units had blamed Pinarayi and daughter’s for their alleged involvement in financial scams that led to the LDF’s poll debacle.
The Thiruvananthapuram and Alappuzha councils of CPI were more vocal against Pinarayi and daughter. Now his own party is targeting him at the state secretariat meeting at Thiruvananthapuram.
The meeting refused to buy Pinarayi’s argument that the votes were not a gauge to measure the anti-incumbency factor. Pinarayi claimed the victory of UDF was a reflection of people’s frustration against the BJP.
Party state secretary M V Govindan’s report said that the conduct and working style of the leaders were distancing people from the party.
Lapses within the Left Democratic Front (LDF) also added to the problems, it said.
There were significant losses at the grassroot levels in seats like Attingal, Alappuzha, Thrissur, and Kozhikode.
The report cited suspension of welfare pensions, financial mismanagement as other reasons for poll debacle.
The meeting said that the party failed to convince people of the centre’s discrimination in allocating funds and observed that the government’s outreach programme Nava Kerala Sadas programme as futile, the reports added.
