Kochi: The brutal murder of CPM leader Sandeep Kumar in Turuvalla in Pathanamthitta was a result of personal enimity, police said.
The prime accused Jishnu had a personal grudge against Sandeep, police said. There are a few criminal cases pending against him.
Out of the five accused, four have been detained by police.
Jishnu, 23, Pramod, 23, Nandu, 23, and Mohammad Faisal, 22, were in police custody while Abhi was at large.
The accused were nabbed using mobile tower location.
Jishnu is said to be an RSS activist while Pramod, Nandu and Faisal were activists of a left youth organisation.
The murderers had chased Sandeep in three two wheelers and attacked him after waylaying his two wheeler on Thursday night.
He was stabbed on the neck, chest and hacked on legs and arms. On hearing the wails of Sandeep, locals rushed to the rescue of Sandeep and took him to the hospital where he was declared dead.
Sandeep was Peringara local committee secretary. He was also a panchayat member.
