Kochi: Five people have fallen victim to Shigella infection in Kerala where 146 shigella cases have been recorded between January and June.
Seventy cases were reported in June.
Kozhikode is the worst-affected district where 22 cases were reported in June. Two deaths were reported in Kozhikode, India Today reported.
Malappuram recorded nine cases and two deaths, while Thrissur reported four cases and one death. Two cases were reported in Idukki district.
The government has decided to constitute a high-level committee on infectious diseases chaired by Dr S.S. Lal, a consultant with the World Health Organisation (WHO).
