Kochi: Venezuelan politician Maria Corina Machado won the Nobel Peace prize 2025 today.
She is an industrial engineer, and human rights advocate. She was born on October 7, 1967, in Caracas, to psychologist Corina Parisca and businessman Henrique Machado Zuloaga as the eldest child.
This is the first time that the Prize is going to South America.
Machado holds a degree in industrial engineering from Andres Bello Catholic University and a master’s degree in finance from the Instituto de Estudios Superiores de Administración (IESA) in Caracas.
Machado began her political journey in 2002 by co-founding Smate, an organisation dedicated to election monitoring and promoting citizens’ rights. She later became the national coordinator of Vente Venezuela, a liberal political party she founded in 2013.
