Kochi: Prime accused in Sabarimala gold loot case, Unnikrishnan Potti, has been sent to 14 days police custody by a Pathanamthitta court on Friday, media reports said.
Potti, who was arrested in the wee hours, was produced before the Court where the police submitted an arrest report which said that the accused had removed two kg of gold from the sanctum panels and used only 394 odd grams to polish it.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) arrested him after 10 hours of interrogation in connection with the Sabarimala Ayyappa Temple gold missing case on Thursday, media reports said.
The SIT headed by ADGP H Venkatesh headed the interrogating near Thiruvananthapuram.
He was arrested at about 2 am and taken for a medical test at about 3.30 am. He was produced before the Court which remanded him.
The SIT is aiming to move court seeking hid police custody.
Unsubstantiated reports said Potti had started his illegal activity as soon as he started acting as a sponsor in the temple.
The SIT is suspicious over the role of Smart Creations in Chennai where Potti had taken parts of the main door of the temple for gold coating.
Potty is accused of extracting gold from the parts of the sanctum door with the help of Smart Creations.
The extracted gold is reported to have been handed over to one Kalpesh who is yet to be traced. The gold is said to be in Hyderabad.
Kalpesh is suspected to be a trustworthy person of Potti and Temple administration officials accused in the case.
It also accused him of violating the rituals in the temple by removing the doors to Chennai and extracting gold from it.
