Kochi: In a major blow to CPM, Ex CPM MLA S Rajendran joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday, Manorama News reported.
BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar officially welcomed into the saffron party at the BJP state headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram.
Rajendran had met Rajeev Chandrasekhar in Thiruvananthapuram a few days ago.
Rajendran clarified that he has not raised any personal demands as he was joining the BJP for overall development of Idukki. . He also reiterated that he would not contest from Devikulam constituency.
Rajendran has been nursing differences with the CPM for the past four years. He was a three-time MLA.
Rajendran has also served as president of the Idukki District Panchayat.
Rajendran was accused by CPM of anti party work to defeat a left candidate in the last Assembly elections.
Based on the inquiry commission’s report, he was subsequently suspended from the party. Even after the suspension period ended, he was not reinstated, leading to further controversy.
Rajendran was also accused of land grabbing in Devikulam taluk.
Rajendran has reiterated that even after joining the BJP, he will not contest the upcoming Assembly elections from Devikulam.
