Kochi: A court in Kottayam in Kerala sentenced former DGP Tomin J Thachankary to four years jail term and slapped a penalty of Rs 30, 84,892 lakh for amassing wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income during 2003-2007.When the Kottayam Vigilance Court asked if had to say anything in defense, Thachankary said he had health issues and suffered chest pain the other day.The case against him was registered in 2007 accusing him of amassing wealth illegally from 2003 to 2007.The investigation found Thachankary amassing about 135 percent of his known sources of income.The prosecution had filed a chargesheet against him in 2013.In August 2025, the High Court of Kerala had set six months time to complete the trial against him.The allegation against Thachankary is that he acquired and possessed assets worth Rs 64.71 lakh, which were disproportionate and in excess of 135.80% of his known sources of income.
