Sugathan escapes disqualification

Kochi: The BJP-ruled Thiruvananthapuram
Corporation Council on Friday sanctioned six months leave to BJP councilor R Sugathan evading his disqualification for his absence from three consecutive council meetings.
The decision passed with 51 votes ignited strong protests from LDF and UDF opposition members.
The decision was backed by Mayor V V Rajesh’s casting vote and an independent councillor.
The decision was passed with 51 out of 101 votes in the council.
Sugathan is detained at Viyyur Central Prison under the Kerala Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act (KAAPA).
