Kochi: Legendary Bollywood playback singer Asha Bhosle, 92, passed away at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai on Sunday, media reports said.
She was admitted to the hospital due to exhaustion and a chest infection. She suffered multi-organ failure following a cardiac arrest.
It marked the end of her eight decades in the music industry, rendering 12,000 songs, films and albums in 20 Indian languages.
Asha was also an entrepreneur and actor. She collaborated with British musician Boy George. She was honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India’s highest award in the field of cinema. The Guinness Book of World Records acknowledged her in 2011 as the most recorded artist in music history.Bhosle was the sister of playback singer Lata Mangeshkar and belonged to the prominent Mangeshkar family.
