Kochi: A medical doctor E A Ruwais, 28, was detained in connection with the suicide of a fellow doctor Shahna whom he was planning to marry, media reports said.
He had gone into hiding after the case and was nabbed from a relative’s house Karunagappally in Kollam.Police have handed over his phone to the cyber cell as the WhatsApp chats and other messages were found deleted.
Police claimed to have enough evidence to prove that Dr Shahna, 28, ended her life by using anesthetic drugs after Dr Ruwais backed out from the marriage as the girl’s side had no scope of paying the dowry allegedly demanded by his parents, media reports said.
Both were postgraduate students in Thiruvananthapuram and were friends.Cases under various sections have been registered against Dr Ruwais. Shahna’s mother and sister have accused Ruwais of being responsible for her death.
Shahna, who was found unconscious in her apartment on Tuesday, was brought dead in hospital. Shahna’s family was facing huge financial crises due to the death of her father a few years back. The Women & Child Development Department director has been directed to probe into the issue.
