Kochi: A former state government official was arrested for stealing gold and other articles from the safe locker of the Revenue Division Office court in Thiruvananthapuram.
Retired Senior Superintendent Sreekandan Nair was arrested from his house in Perurkada past midnight last night in Thiruvananthapuram.
Police were struggling to crack the case as they were not able to get a lead to the missing of about 100 sovereign of gold from the court for the last one month.
It was then that police got some clues that made them watch Nair who was the custodian of the locker.
Nair had sold some gold and mortgaged some for raising money.
Revenue Minister K Rajan had ordered a probe into the missing of gold, silver, cash kept in the court locker located in the Collectorate. The disputed valuables were
came under the court’s custody during different times from 2010 and 2019.
The missing of the valuables came to the notice of the authorities when a claimant came to collect some articles of a deceased relative.
