Curbs on Iran at World Cup

Kochi: VISA applications of four out of 15 members of Iran’s World Cup delegation were cleared while 11 members will not be allowed to travel to the US.
Out of the 15 members initially denied US visas, 10 submitted fresh applications after arriving in Mexico.
Four of those appeals, including a technical staff and two officials from the federation’s international department, were granted permission.
The remaining six included Iran Football Federation (FFIRI) president Mehdi Taj, one of FFIRI’s vice-presidents, two team administrators, a media officer and a security officer.
The country’s World Cup group-stage ticket allocation for supporters was revoked by US officials earlier this week.
The FFIRI had previously presented FIFA with a list of 10 conditions for their participation in the World Cup, including allowing players, coaches and officials who have completed military service with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
