Kochi: The country has witnessed perhaps the biggest narcotics seizure worth Rs 1,978 crore in Mumbai, media reports said.
Drugs worth Rs 502 crore were seized soon after narcotics worth Rs 1,476 crore were seized the other day from a consignment of fruits imported allegedly by Vijin Varghese, Managing Director, Yammito International Foods.
Vijin of Kalady in Kerala was arrested in connection with the previous seizure worth Rs 1,476 crore case involving 198 kg Methamphetamine and nine kg of Cocaine. He is being arrested for the second time in the Rs 502 crore case in connection with smuggling of 50 kg of cocaine, reports said.
The narcotics were found hidden in a consignment of fruits sent from More Fresh Exports in Johannesburg in South Africa
allegedly by Manzoor of Kottakkal in Kerala.
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has sought the help of Interpol to nab Manzoor.
