HC takes serious note of traffic violation

Kochi: Taking Suo Motu case over the bus mishap claiming 9 lives at Vadakkencherry, the Kerala High Court today directed the Road SafetyCommissioner and Transport Commissioner to appear before the court tomorrow.

The court allowed them to appear online if they were not in position to present physically. The court said the accident was terrorising and should be taken very seriously.

The government should think seriously about banning buses and heavy vehicles from overtaking other vehicles. Flaying the authorities for failing to taking strict measures to enforce traffic norms, the court observed that the road users hardly followed lane discipline.

Most of the buses had faulty emergency exits and many drivers consumed drugs. It is
the attitude to get away by committing crimes that led to accidents, the court said. The absence of seat belts and air bags in buses is a matter of concern.
