Kochi: A father killed his four-year-old daughter in Punnamoottil in Mavelikkara in South Kerala, media reports said. Preliminary reports said that the accused took the extreme step under the influence of alcohol, the reports said. The child, Nakshatra, who was hacked with an axe in the neck, died on the spot, the reports said. On hearing the wails of Nakshatra, Mahesh’s mother Sunanda, who lived with her daughter next door with her daughter, rushed to the spot to find her granddaughter lying in a pool of blood. Shocked by witnessing the scene, she ran out of the house crying in terror. Mahesh ran after her and hacked her inflicting serious injuries. People rushed to her rescue but were not allowed to help her by Mahesh, 38. People in the neighbourhood said that Mahesh was mentally unstable. Sunanda was admitted to a hospital with serious injuries. Mahesh’s wife committed suicide a few years back. He was preparing for a second marriage when the girl backed out upon knowing about the unstable behaviour of Mahesh who had returned from abroad following the death of his father in a train accident.
