Kochi: Former Bihar deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi of BJP passed away in a hospital in New Delhi, media reports said.
Modi, 72, was suffering from cancer and was under treatment in the AIIMS. Modi had announced about his illness on the X on April 3.
Born on January 5, 1952, to Moti Lal Modi and Ratna Devi, Modi entered politics while doing his masters in Botany in Patna Science College by joining the Loknayak Jai Prakash Narayan movement.
He became a life member of RSS and grew stronger in the party and went on to become Deputy Chief Minister in 2004. He was elected to the post twice. Modi was also a member of Rajya Sabha. Modi was the Chairman of the Empowered Committee of State Finance Ministers for the Implementation of Goods and Service Tax in July 2011.
Modi married his classmate Jessie George and had two sons.
