Gill is test captain

Kochi: Shubman Gill, 25, was picked to lead the 18 member squad during the 5-Test series against England starting on June 20 at Headingley, media reports said.
The selection panel led by Ajit Agarkar and BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia met at Mumbai to name Gill as the 37th skipper of the country.
Wicket keeper Rishabh Pant was named deputy captain.
The vacancy for captainship arose after star batsman Rohit Sharma hung up his boots from Test cricket.
Though he lacks captaincy experience in the red-ball format, he has led India in a five-match T20I assignment in Zimbabwe in 2024. Gill is the captain of Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League.
Gill was vice-captain in ODIs and T20Is. He was Rohit Sharma’s deputy in India’s victorious Champions Trophy campaign in the UAE in February 2025.
Gill has played 32 test matches and scored 1,893 runs, including five centuries.
Team: Shubman Gill (captain), Rishabh Pant (wk) (vice-captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, K L Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel (wk), Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh and Kuldeep Yadav.
