Kerala Guv may go strong against VC

Kochi: Appointment of the wife of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s private secretary K K Ragesh as associate professor in Kannur University has triggered a major political controversy.

Even the Vice Chancellor Gopinath Raveendran, who is on a four years extension given after the appointment of Priya, is going to face the music for making intimidatory reactions after the Governor Arif Mohammad Khan suspended the appointment of Ragesh’s wife Priya Varghese.

The Governor is likely to take strong action against the Vice Chancellor who had threatened to challenge the stay issued by the Governor who is the appointing authority of the VC.

The Governor, who is in New Delhi, is expected back on August 25. The Governor has received legal advice that what the Vice Chancellor did was erroneous.

The VC, who had threatened to challenge the Governor’s suspension, dropped his plans after getting legal advice accordingly.

The LDF government, which is already facing countless problems like KSRTC crisis, Vizhinjam project protest, huge financial crises, ED probe on KIIFB borrowings and many more, the Priya Varghese issue has added to its kitty of liabilities.

But the government has taken it up as a prestige issue. But its major ally CPI, which is up in arms against the Chief Minister, is causing much harm to the CPM by openly criticising the government and CPI state chief Kanam Rajendran.
