Grave charges against SFI protestors

Kochi: SFI activists who protested against the Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan were slapped with section 124 of the IPC, media reports said.
This was done after the Governor issued directions to the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police after the police booked the accused under lighter charges
for trying to waylay the Governor during his travel to the airport in Thiruvananthapuram.
Governor and the Chief Minister are supposed to get top level security and section 124 of IPC was slapped considering the gravity of the crime, the reports said.
The police had shown double standard in a similar case when KSU workers were booked under attempt to murder when they flung shoes at Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s at Perumbavoor during his tour of the state in his mobile secretariat.
If found guilty, the accused could get imprisonment of upto seven years of non bailable jail.
Out of the 19 arrested, 12 were booked under section 124 of the IPC based on the statement of Raj Bhavan security officer.
The BJP state chief K Surendran accused the Police of leaking out the Governor’s tour plans to SFI.
The CPM justified the protest as a pre planned one by the SFI, the reports said.
