Kochi: Quashing nomination of four members to Kerala University senate by the Governor, the Kerala High Court on Tuesday upheld two members sent by the Left Government, media reports said.
The single bench of the court directed the Governor Arif Mohammad Khan to carry out fresh appoinments to the senate considering the cases of those who had challenged the Governor’s decision terming it as discriminatory.
The court directed the Governor, who is chancellor of the university, to carry out the appointments in six weeks time.
The court ruling came while disposing of petitions filed by those whose names were recommended by the university.
The petitioners accused the Governor of favouring the ABVP candidares while making the nominations.
They alleged that their candidature was rejected without examining their talent.
The court asked the Governor as to why he sidelined other candidates forwarded by the registrar.
The Governor informed the court that there was no prescribed guidelines to be followed by a Governor while nominating members to the senate.
The court directed the Governor to consider the cases of the aggrieved students who had challenged Governir’s decision.
