KSRTC to go on strike

Kochi: A section of the debt-ridden Kerala State Transport Corporation (KSRTC) will go on a 24-hour strike from Thursday midnight protesting against delay in getting their wages.
The decision was taken after the talks between the unions and government remained inconclusive at Thiruvananthapuram.
The management’s promise to pay the salary on May 21 was rejected by the unions.
The Transport Minister Antony Raju’s offer to make it May 10 was also not considered.
While the INTUC and BMS resolved to strike, the left union CITU decided not to disrupt services.
Meanwhile, the Transport Minister Antony Raju alleged that the strike was politically motivated.
KSRTC is a transport system taking care of unviable and difficult routes which are not considered by private operators. Disruption of its services would hardly hit a large number of people.
The KSRTC is in serious trouble with over Rs 3000 crore debt pending against it.
