India saves fourth test

Kochi: Outstanding defence tactics adopted by India helped the visitors to stave off a defeat in the hands of England in the fourth test which ended in a draw at Manchester in England.
India, which staged a poor show in the first innings by succumbing to English attack at 358, bounced back to hoist 425 for four due to meticulous batting by skipper Gill at 103, Washington Sundar at 101 not out, Jadeja 107 not out and K L Rahul, 90.
In the first innings, Sai Sudarshan hit the highest of 61, followed by Y Jaiswal 58, Pant 54.
England’s Stokes took 5 wickets in the first innings, Archer 3, Dawnson and Woakes one each.
In the second innings Woakes took 2 wickets, Stokes and Archer one each.
England made 669 in the first innings with Root hitting 150, Stokes 141, Duckett 94, Crawley 84 and Pope 71.
Jadeja took 4 wickets, Bumrah and Sundar two each and Kamboj and Siraj 1 each.
England leads 2-1 in the five test series. The first test at Leeds was won by England, second test by India at Birmingham and third test at Lords went in favor of England.
The fifth and final test will be played at Oval on July 31.
