India wins Women’s ODI World Cup

Kochi: India lifted the maiden women’s ICC ODI World Cup by beating South Africa by 52 runs in a rain interrupted final at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy, Navi Mumbai past midnight on Monday.
Winning the toss, South Africa sent India to bat first two hours behind schedule.
The winners made 298 for 7, with 87 by S Verma, 45 by S Mandhana 45 and 58 by D Sharma.
South Africa’s A Khakha claimed 3 wickets while Mlaba, de Klerk, Tryon claimed 1 each.
Chasing a target of 299, South Africa started in a cautious manner without going for big hits.
Captain Wolvaardt played an outstanding innings to score 101 runs. The visitors were all out for 246 in 45.3 overs. For India, D Sharma claimed 5 wickets, S Varma 2 and N Charani 1
Australia holds the record for the most Women’s World Cup titles winning the tournament seven times since 1978. England has won four times, and New Zealand once.
