Kochi: World number one Iga Swiatek thrashed Coco Gauff 6-1 6-3 of US in the final to win the French Open women’s singles title on Saturday.
The 21-year-old Polish is claiming her second Grand Slam title. She was the title holder at Roland Garros in 2020.
The 18-year-old runner up, Gauff, was playing her first Grand Slam final.
The men’s finals will be played on Sunday when Rafael Nadal will take on Norwegian eighth seed Casper Ruud at Court Philippe-Chatrier in Paris.
Nadal has won 13 French Open titles and
has not lost a final while Ruud will be playing his first slam final. Nadal beat third seed Alexander Zverev in the semi-final while Ruud beat Croatian Marin Cilic in the other semifinal.
