Kochi: In a blow to the farmers in Kerala, the state government has slashed the quantity of paddy procured from farmers to 2,000 kg, media reports said. Earlier, the state government agency Supplyco used to buy 2,200 kg of paddy.
This is going to help private agencies which would be able to exploit the farmers and buy paddy at a throw away price. The Supplyco is currently engaged in procuring paddy from farmers across the state, the reports said.
The gullible farmers who were taken by surprise have no idea what to do with their surplus paddy which they had produced and dried investing heavily. The procurement price is Rs 28.20.
