Kochi: A live cockroach was removed from the stomach of a youth at a private hospital in New Delhi, media reports said.
A 3 cm sized cockroach was found inside the small intestine of a 23-year old man who visited the Fortis Hospital, Vasant Kunj, after becoming sick. The patient complained of abdominal pain and indigestion. He had consumed street food before getting unwell, the reports said.
A team of doctors led by Dr Shubham Vatsya, Senior Consultant in Gastroenterology at Fortis Hospital, found the cockroach and retrieved it through endoscopy in 10 minutes. An endoscope equipped with two channels for water infusion and air suction was used.
Dr Shubham Vatsya said the condition
life-threatening as its presence could lead to infection. The patient might have either swallowed the cockroach while eating or it might have entered his mouth while sleeping.
